What is the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme?

Starting in April 2010, the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is the UK's first mandatory carbon trading scheme for non energy intensive organisations in the public and private sector.

What is the purpose of the scheme?

The aim of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is to reduce the level of carbon emissions currently produced by the larger non energy intensive organisations by aproximately 1.2 million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2020.

Will my organisation be affected?

The Scheme will affect all public and private sector organisations which have the following:

  • At least one half-hourly electricity meter settled on the half-hourly market
  • A 'HH' electricity consumption exceeding 6,000 MWh during 2008

The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme presents a complex array of risks and opportunities for all participants, including legal obligations for accounting and reporting, financial costs and rewards, implementation of carbon reduction initiatives and the impact of league table performance on brand reputation. energyTEAM can help your organisation to better understand the implications of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, and provide a tailored and focused action plan to tackle the unique risks and opportunities that the scheme presents.
