Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs)

Who must have them?

Any organisation or individual selling or renting a commercial property must comply with this legislation. All commercial buildings regardless of floor size must have an Energy Performance Certificate.

How long is an Energy Performance Certificate valid?

Energy Performance Certificates are valid for up to 10 years.

What are the penalties for Non Compliance?

Upon sale, lease or rent, failure to provide a valid certificate will carry a penalty equal to 12.5% of the property's rateable value (max £5,000). In addition to this penalty, it is still necessary to commission the Energy Performance Certificates
